Feng shui that will keep you cozy ‘til spring

It’s freezing out and the cool color scheme in your home just reminds you of grey skies and icicles.

A crackling fire sure would be nice, but you know how bad those are for your lungs and the environment, so you’re stuck with the winter grey-blues.

Don’t despair - there are a few things you can do to warm up your pad without using and abusing that ol’ fireplace (if you have a gas one, great – go for it). We consulted Care2.com to find out how you can feng shui your place for winter.

Warm Up

  1. Out with the blue, in with the red. Red represents warmth, or yang, so grab some red accessories to warm up the room – pillows, placemats, or throws work well.
  2. Bring color to the kitchen. Cook with orange comfort foods like pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and squash.
  3. Kick seasonal affective disorder. Get a full spectrum light to read by. Bonus: plants love full spectrum lights, so you can create a little winter garden near your favorite reading chair.
  4. Don’t let it get drafty. Make sure your windows are covered well with drapes or valances. Choose a warm color to completely update the character of a room.
  5. Replace old rugs with natural versions. Tibetan rugs are a great choice. Look for rugs made from natural fibers and plant dyes.

I wear a bright colored top on a rainy gloomy day.

LOVE the blue and red! I live in a condo that was not built to its energy efficiency-ness so I use blankets and/or snuggle with my husband to be!!
