It’s not tough to figure out why factory farming scores high on our Shit List.

Actually, the only thing that pisses us off more is sitting around and not doing a darn thing to stop it.

On October 27, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization, Farm Sanctuary, is bringing together more than 30 world-renowned experts from the environmental and animal welfare movements for the two-day National Conference to End Factory Farming in Arlington, Va. — yes, the first one ever.

Can we get an Amen?

The conference will explore factory farming’s effects on our health, animal welfare and the environment with the help of leading voices from these movements. The end goal? To inspire collaboration between advocacy groups and empower people to get off their butts and build solutions for change. [Insert cheers here].

Power Players

After taking a gander at the line-up of speakers, change seems written in the cards. Featured experts include U.S. Congressman James P. Moran (D-VA); John Mackey, co-founder and co-CEO of Whole Foods Market; Dr. T. Colin Campbell, bestselling author of "The China Study"; Elizabeth Kucinich, director of government affairs for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine; Lester Friedlander, former USDA slaughterhouse inspector; Bryan Walsh, TIME magazine senior writer and columnist; Gene Baur, president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary and more.

But here’s the dairy-free icing on the cake: you are invited to attend. The conference is open to professionals, experts and any chick that wants to stand up for animals.

I can't believe you just posted this!  I just now (literally a second ago) finished typing an email to my husband telling him I really really really want to go to this!  I want to learn as much as I can from experts in the field so I can decide what I can do, as one individual, to make a difference and advance the movement to abolish factory farming.  I'm also interested to see the vendor tables and all the materials/products they have available - who doesn't love a little eco friendly, animal friendly shopping, huh?!

I hope I get selected to be your HBD correspondent!  Ooo, that sounds so fancy and official ;)  I love to write and would consider it a priviledge to report back to your subscribers on the highlights of the conference and steps they can take to clean up nasty, cruel, unhealthy, and corrupt factory farming.  Um, yeah, I'm just a tad passionate about this stuff ;)

Gosh I wish I could win! I've been wanting to attend ever since I first learned about Farm Sanctuary's work and mission. It is so truly inspiring and gives me hope that things will get better for our animals. I would love to attend this event because if not for the opportunity, I wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it. And I hope that by the time I am able to, these conferences will no longer be necessary. Wishful thinking? I hope not. Thank you for yet another wonderful giveaway. 

The Truth Exposed

When I first found out about factory farming, it made me sick to my stomach to even look at a piece of meat. First off, I couldn't fathom how anyone could treat a living creature like it was a no more than a product, and secondly I couldn't understand how so many people could still justify supporting it by continuing to buy and eat the product. Some are not aware, others are able to disassociate the meal in front of them with the animal it came from. I'm not one of those people, although I don't consider myself perfect by any means. 

Ultimately, I can't blame others when I feel as though I'm sitting here on my bitchy butt, complaining about the state of factory farming when I could be doing so much more. Other than my individual efforts to support local and ditch meat, I feel the need to be at the center of the fight to end this cruelty.

Ready to get my Bitch on!

I am a dedicated HBD reader and consider myself in good company among the other pissed off bitches when it comes to factory farming. I would be honored to represent HBD by attending this event and sharing my findings in the name of healthy bitches everywhere. I'd love to be part of this movement to expose factory farming and to end the suffering of so many innocent animals.

Dang, misspelled "privilege"!  That's not a good reflection of my writing skill, so please don't hold it against me smiley-undecided.gif

Stop! That burger is toxic.

Ok, I'm being dramatic, but there's truth in that statement.  You see, that burger (or any meat for that matter) is doing a lot of damage, and I'm not just talking about your weight.  Factory farming is a nasty business and our animals, our environment, and our health are all at risk.

I took a few minutes and peeked at a few of the shocking images on the Farm Sanctuary website (http://www.farmsanctuary.org/issues/factoryfarming).  I'm incredibly saddened to see animals living such miserable lives and suffering such abuse.  Deep breath.

And when did it become ok to use the words "Factory" and "Farm" together? Just think about it ... the visual image is intense, right? And it's nothing compared to the reality of what's really going on.

I am so pumped that this conference is being held. It's time to gather the minds and to discuss the hurdles that we must overcome to end Factory Farming. I would be honored to cover the conference, to talk to the leaders & game changers in attendance, and to report back on how we healthy bitches can make a difference.

I would really love to attend and winning a free entrance would be a great excuse to purchase my airfare!  I love Farm Sanctuary and the work that they do.  I volunteer at Animal Acres whenever I can, but would really like to get more involved in the upstream activism and learn more about how I can help end factory farming (aside from being vegan and spreading the word, that is).
