When you say tomato, we say tomahto. When you say potato, we say potahto. When you say Memorial Day, we say food. Six times a day, every four hours, until we want to fill our ovens with fuzzy winter sweaters and never turn it on again.

Call us fat pigs, if you like. But apparently, Skinny Bitches like to eat. We heard you loud and clear, ladies (wink, wink)

That is why today marks the launch of Healthy Bitch Daily’s all-new RECIPE Section, which we’ll be serving on a silver platter every Friday. This doesn’t mean Bitches We Love is going anywhere- you’ll still find it on different days of the week.

With the three-day weekend upon us, we asked our good friend Carolyn Scott of Healthy Voyager to kick-off the Recipe Sectionand assemble a few feel-good recipes for a holiday smorgasbord.

God Bless, America.

Drunk BBQ Corn

Ingredients:

10 ears fresh corn with husks
1 quart beer (non-alcoholic or wheat-free, if desired)
1 (7 pound) bag of ice cubes

Directions: Place whole ears of corn in an ice chest. Pour the beer over top. Dump the ice out over the ears of corn. Place the lid on the cooler, and let sit for 8 hours, or overnight. Preheat smoker to 250° F. Place the corn in the smoker and close the lid. Cook for 1 to 2 hours, turning every 20 minutes or so. Kernels should give easily under pressure when done. To eat, just peel back the husks and dig in.

Tropical Chick’n Sticks

Ingredients:

1 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup Tamari or Shoyu (or Braggs Liquid Aminos)
4 boxes of Gardein Chick’n Filets
skewers

Directions: In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix the pineapple juice, brown sugar, and soy sauce. Remove from heat just before the mixture comes to a boil. Place chick’n in a medium bowl. Cover with the pineapple marinade, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Preheat grill at medium heat. Thread chick’n lengthwise onto wooden skewers. Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill chick’n tenders for 3 minutes per side. They cook quickly, so watch them closely.

SweetLeaf Punch

Ingredients:

3 large oranges, thinly sliced
2 lemons, thinly sliced
1 bottle of SweetLeaf Lemonade
1 liter carbonated (seltzer) water
2 (750 milliliter) bottles sparkling apple cider
1 tablespoon evaporated cane juice
2 trays ice cubes

Directions: Place the oranges and lemons in a large punch bowl. Pour in the lemonade. Gently stir in the seltzer water and the sparkling apple cider. Add sugar to taste. Add the ice.

Creamy Strawberry Banana Pops

Ingredients:

2 cups So Delicious Strawberry Banana Coconut Milk Yogurt
1⁄2 cup light brown sugar
6 (3 ounce) paper cups
18 vegan vanilla wafers

Directions: Whisk the yogurt and brown sugar in a bowl to blend. Divide between the paper cups. Freeze for 1 hour. Insert a popsicle stick in each cup. Freeze at least 2 additional hours. Put the wafers in a resealable bag and crush with a rolling pin. Working with 2 pops at a time to prevent melting, carefully tear off cups. Roll both in cookie crumbs. Place in a new cup; freeze until ready to eat. Repeat with remaining cups and crumbs.

A problem? Nah. Sticky situation averted.

This, and hundreds of other minor disasters, are just what make up author Jane Buckingham’s third installation of The Modern Girl’s Guide series, The Modern Girl’s Guide to Sticky Situations. Offering contingency plans and escape routes for life’s everyday pickles, Jane’s witty, smart and straight-forward advice aren’t something she just pulled out of her bum⎯but the collective experience of more than 20 years as one of the world’s top trend forecasters on twenty-somethings, teens, tweens and their parents.

The pioneer in youth trend forecasting and founder of Youth Intelligence (which she sold to Creative Artists Agency in 2003), Jane has worked with Fortune 500 companies like Nike, Target, Chanel, Sony and MTV and is now the CEO and founder of Trendera.

Recently named as one of the “25 Most Powerful Women in Hollywood” byElle magazine, Jane doesn’t mess around. And either do her solutions. With her newest release, you’ll be able to think fast on your feet when you send an email you instantly regret, botch your self-tan, drop your cell phone in water and even how to get around a declined credit card at dinner. Ouch.

We asked the author of The Modern Girl’s Guide series to help our Healthy Bitches find their Sherlock moment during some of life’s most unpleasant dinner party mishaps. Take heed.

Jane Buckingham’s Solutions for Sticky Situations

At Your Dinner Party …

Stuck: You Oversalt a Soup or Stew

In Luck: No worries, stick a piece of potato in while cooking and it will soak it up. Just remove it when done cooking.

Stuck: Your Cake Collapses

In Luck: Make a trifle. Break the cake into bits and put onto bowls with fruit and whipped cream or ice cream. No one will know the difference.

Stuck: Your Outdoor Dinner Party is Being Overrun by Mosquitoes and You Have No Insect Repellent

In Luck: Offer each guest a half sheet of fabric softener to put through their belt loop or bra. Mosquitoes hate the smell of it!

Stuck: The Bread You Bought is Stale

In Luck: Sprinkle it with water, wrap in aluminum foil and heat in the oven for 10 minutes.

At Someone Else’s Dinner Party …

Stuck: You Don’t Know What to Bring

In Luck: Wine is fine but boring. Loose flowers are gorgeous but your frenzied hostess may have used all of her vases. So instead think about a potted plant (I’m all about cactuses these days) or an interesting beverage like Proseco.

Stuck: Your Ex is There … With Someone Else

In Luck: Don’t avert your gaze, look straight into his eyes, say hello and introduce yourself to his, um, friend. Chat politely, say nothing snide and move on. Do not sit near them and do not drink too much. The less said the better.

Stuck: You Want to Leave a Party Early But Don’t Want to Look Rude

In Luck: First and foremost, give your hostess advance warning. This will make it clear that it’s not about the party itself but a prior commitment. Make it swift and silent. No need to say goodbye to everyone. Just say a brief goodbye to the people you are directly talking with then find your host. Thank him and her, and point out some aspect of the party you enjoyed. Call the next day to thank the host again. If desperate you can always use the Fake-A-Call App on your I-phone to schedule an emergency call from what sounds like a real person.

Now if only someone could tell us how to deal with the uncomfortable aftermath of a one-night stand? Oh wait … Damn you, Jane!

Visit www.amazon.com to pick up your copy of The Modern Girl’s Guide to Sticky Situations.

Divya Gugnani is one smart chef – literally. Tucking a B.S. from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School under her apron, Divya’s humble story began with a trailblazing career in finance at some of NYC’s biggest investment firms.

But the better she became at her job as a venture capitalist, the more she realized her success in the elementary bake sale circuit and a childhood obsession with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were more than just young love. So she decided to go back to school – to the French Culinary Institute. Rediscovering her inner chef, Divya soon decided to blend her culinary passions with her business savvy to create Behind the Burner.

With a network of more than 425 culinary experts, Behind the Burner serves up culinary secrets, tricks-of-the-trade and recipes from some of the nation’s most sought-after kitchens and chef personalities. From wine to nutrition to mixology to gourmet fixes, Divya’s media powerhouse takes hip and hungry food and drink enthusiasts to Pleasantville with videos, articles, blogs, photos and restaurant commentaries.

And she’s not just reaching the blogosphere. Aside from regular appearances on MSNBC: Your Business, NBC Weekend Today and NBC New York Nonstop, Divya is getting her hands dirty with her upcoming book release, Food Slut: My Black Book of Tips from Behind the Burner.

Divya’s one kitchen tip that every Healthy Bitch should know? “Buy one great nonstick cookware item so you don’t have to use a lot of ‘butter’ and oil to make delicious meals.”

She’s also a big believer that being smart doesn’t only apply to your noggin’- it applies to your diet, too. “If you eat small meals and you eat frequently, you won’t fall victim to hunger pangs, which make you overindulge in the wrong foods. Snacking is fine – Just make sure your snacks are healthy. NEVER skip breakfast and drink at least eight glasses of water a day to flush out toxins and keep your skin radiant.”

Because we have decided and publicly declared that summer has already started in our perfect world at HBD, we asked Ms. Divya to show us how toreally kick-back poolside … with an über healthy cocktail.

Quick Stats:

Birthplace: Springfield, Illinois

When I’m Not Cooking, I’m … working

Favorite Cuisine: Italian

Cookbook You Can’t Put Down: Jamie Oliver’s first book, The Naked Chef

My Last Meal Would Be: From a streetside vendor in Thailand. I love those big, bold flavors.

Favorite Organic Wine: I like the organic wines from Michel Chapoutier.

Appliance You Would Die Without: My Kitchen Aid. I use it for anything and everything.

Sparkling Summer Punch by Divya Gugnani

This sophisticated take on classic party punch showcases your favorite summer fruits without packing in extra calories. By using fresh fruit as a sweetener and toning down the wine content with a splash of seltzer, you can skim off calories while keeping cool.

Makes: 6 Servings

Ingredients:

1/4 cup fresh apricots, diced

1/4 cup fresh nectarines, diced

1/4 cup fresh peaches, diced

2 cups sparkling wine

1 cup seltzer

1/2 cup peach or apricot nectar

Preparation

1. Fill a large bowl or pitcher with ice. Add the diced fruit, sparkling wine, seltzer and nectar.

2. Stir well to combine, then pour into ice-filled rocks glasses. Garnish with a peach slice and serve.

Keep your eyes peeled (and your taste buds thrilled) for more healthy cocktail recipes from Behind the Burner throughout the summer. For more information on Behind the Burner, visit www.behindtheburner.com.

Women deserve a crown.

We can weather nine months with a belly the size of a small Prius. We can put on lipstick while driving in rush-hour traffic (though not recommended). We can make old people feel really good. And some of us can even cook and clean. Ahem, some of us.

Is there anything we’re not good at?!

Indeed. It’s called balance, and most of us are actually terrible at it.

But not Robyn Hessinger. The editor in-chief of Care2.com (our fave Web site here at HBD), Robyn somehow finds the time to balance content for 13.2 million members while she’s on the clock, and find her inner ch’i as a yogi and Reiki practitioner off the clock. But no matter what clock she’s on, Robyn is always striving to make the world a better place. Amen.

“I believe that how you live your life is as important as what you put in your body (healthy, seasonal, local, organic foods and filtered water), on your body (natural lotions, toothpaste, deodorant, hair care) and in your home (non-toxic products),” said Robyn.

Because we all need to find our happy place from time to time, we asked Robyn to tell us a few things that are near and dear to her heart.

Full Name: Robyn Hessinger

City of Residence: San Francisco, Calif.

Occupation/Role: Editor in-Chief of Care2.com

Superfood you Swear By: Mangoes, yum! And anything green …

Role Model: Strong women, soft men, and anyone who demonstrates compassion for other people, animals and the planet

Workout: Running, Yoga, and hanging out in the ocean

Three Things You Couldn’t Live Without: Only three?!? Okay, music (iPod is revolutionary), flowers (essences, oils and the real thing), and love (self-love, friends, family, pets …)

Robyn’s Three Simple Rules to Living Life

Live authentic, be yourself. Seriously. So many people go about their day acting, or doing, or being, how they think others expect them to be. And that is just so limiting. And so stifling. The healthiest thing you can do for yourself – and for those around you – is to be yourself. Say what you think, feel, believe, and live your true authentic life. You’ll be healthier and happier!

Find humor in anything, and everything. It is so important to laugh. Every day. A funny book, movie, article, friend, Web site, video on YouTube … Find something that makes you laugh. And then share it. Laughing is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself each day. P.S. And it just happens to be contagious, in the best kinda way!

Expect magic, miracles, and practice gratitude. Really. There are so many amazing things waiting for you, and waiting to happen to you each day. You just need to be open to the possibilities. Whether it is finding a parking spot or a $10 bill, getting a free cup of coffee, or running into an old friend you’ve been meaning to call, there is something great awaiting you each day. And when you get that parking spot or receive a smile from a stranger, practice gratitude, and more of it will come your way. It’s so much healthier to be able to find the positive stuff in life, even if it seems to be small stuff.

We couldn’t agree more, Robyn.

But, traveling didn’t come without a little friction for this savvy chick. A vegan with roots in holistic nutrition, Carolyn had trouble finding healthy vegan restaurants and food options while traveling abroad that appealed to her distinguished taste buds. Packing her own snacks and junk foods was getting a bit old in her book. But this Bitch we Love didn’t just stand around. In 2005, she launched Healthy Voyager, a blog and video web series designed to show people that your dietary restrictions should not ruin your trip. Her blog documents her travels, favorite restaurants and dining resources, and tricks of the trade on manipulating any menu to meet your eating requirements. All with her fiancé in tow …

With the Easter Bunny making a special visit this Sunday, Carolyn has created a few special Spring recipes for HBD subscribers. Hop to it.

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon sugar

1/3 cup warm water

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 425° F (220° C). Put the flour, salt, allspice, 1 tablespoon of sugar and raisins in a bowl. Leave in a warm place. Mix the yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar and water. Leave the yeast mixture to rise. Stir the yeast mixture into flour mixture. Knead, roll into buns and leave in a warm place to rise. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Leave the buns to cool, and brush with Earth Balance. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Ever since the two girls met in the first week of high school in the suburbs of Los Angeles, the two beauties have been inseparable. Well, sort of. Post-college, Tracy headed off to Spain to teach English, while Lauren journeyed to Thailand and Australia to work at organic farms before sneaking off to India to work at an orphanage. But, fortunately for us, their worldwide treks didn’t cure their curiosity. Once they both returned to LaLa Land, the place they knew as kids, the BFFs yearned for a life that made them feel good. One that allowed them to give back. One that considered the environment. One that was fun. One like Your Daily Thread.

Tracy & Lauren’s Top 5 Things to Do in Los Angeles

#1. Get Your Green Drink On: Drink and socialize with other like-minded Angelenos at one of the six rotating “LA Green Drinks.” Green Drinks is a grassroots organization that brings greenies together throughout the city to mix and mingle. Whether you’re looking to network or make a new friend, these gatherings are a perfect way to learn what’s happening in Hollywood’s green scene. To find out where the next Green Drinks is taking place, visit lagreendrinks.blogspot.com.

#2. Volunteer with Eco Non-Profits: Roll up your sleeves and prepare to get dirty. Whether you’re interested in beach clean-ups, forest restoration, healthy eating or planting trees, you’re sure to find an organization that will appreciate your helping hands. We can’t say enough about the good work courtesy of local organizations likeTreepeople and Heal the Bay.

#3. Taste the Best of Eco-Friendly Taco Trucks: Food trucks are on the streets like never before, and fortunately a lot of them have some eco-cred and a healthy conscience. You can follow some of our favorite ones on Twitter. Find out where they’ll be driving next @Gastrobus @bordergrill @coolhaus @Greentruck @letsbefrank @frysmith.

#4. Foster Sustainability in Cities at Sustainable Works: Want to amp up your green knowledge? From household chemicals to wise energy consumption, you’ll learn something new and noteworthy in Green Living 101 at Sustainable Works. Classes are taught in Santa Monica and one starts up every few weeks.
#5. Re-Discover Vintage: As the saying goes, “one person’s trash is another’s treasure.” And there’s a lot of treasure to be had in the vintage stores and flea markets around town. On our radar you’ll find:

Chloë Sevigny has never been afraid to experiment. Balancing the acts of award-winning actress, clothing designer and poster child of high fashion’s hipster movement, the mysterious blonde continues to keep us guessing. But, when Chloë took home the Golden Globe for her role in HBO’s critically acclaimed “Big Love,” we would have guessed it all along.

The down-to-earth Ms. Sevigny talks with EcoStiletto about embracing her inner hippie, the little things that count and her ultimate surrender to Mother Earth … taking the train.

EcoStiletto: When did you first become aware of the green movement?

Chloë Sevigny: Probably the first Earth Day. My mom was always very environmentally conscious. I’d have to say being green was instilled in me before I even knew what it meant. We recycled, composted and used cloth rags when I was just a child.

ES: What types of green changes have you made or do you plan to make in your life?

CS: I have made so many. I think the best thing to do is list them: unplugging chargers, hang drying clothes, bringing my own mug and jugs of water that I fill at home to the set, (this
habit has inspired many a co-star), recycling everything possible including clothes and bric-a-brac, trying to consume less and buying less junk in my day-to-day life, changing to energy efficient bulbs, eating less meat and buying organic. I never use plastic bags and always bring my own, whether shopping for
clothes or groceries. I also take public transportation. Even if people bug me on the train, it’s much faster anyway.

ES: What are a few of your favorite green beauty and lifestyle products or stores?

CS: Ecover diswashing and laundry detergents, earth-friendly products and anything you can buy at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s or your local health food store. I also love the beauty products with essential oils; They are a great bargain and smell great.

ES: Do you have an eco-friendly tip for our readers?

CS: Being eco-friendly makes you feel good about yourself. Who cares if people call you a hippie.

Eco Chic is powered by EcoStiletto, our go-to resource for all things eco-fashion, beauty, lifestyle and celebrity related.
It’s Friday afternoon and you’re stuck in your cube feverously switching between Facebook and three dating sites like a gold medal is at stake. You’

ve updated your profile photo mutiple times convincing yourself that the photo of you hiking the Andes screams, Date me. I’m the one.

While “mesohorny433″ seems like the most likely candidate to father your children, you still want to believe that men live outside their digital domain. I mean, why can’t we meet guys the old-fashioned way like our mom’s did at prom?

To find out, we turned our attention to social diva Peg Samuel. We’re not making this shit up. She actually wrote the book, How to Be a Social Diva, and runs the very swank online social guide Social Diva. So we asked her, How exactly does a healthy bitch meet men? I mean, it’s not like the rodeo is going to get us all hot and bothered. Peg says…

Dog Park. What’s that, Lassie? You don’t have a dog? Find one. They’re everywhere. Every Saturday morning, tons of men and their furry friends turn to their local dog park for dedicated playtime. You know he’s trying to look busy while his dog chases his tail around the park. And no, he’s really not reading the paper, he’s checking your pooch out. Ask him questions like, “Wow, your dog is stunning. What breed is it?” or “Great collar! I have that one in red.”Remember, if a guy owns a dog, he loves to talk about it. Anything focused on his dog and not on him is guaranteed to earn you a lap around the pen. It’s kind of a reverse-sideways psychology.

Farmer’s Market. So, you want a guy that thinks the drive-thru at 1 am is cute? Cut through the clutter and go where the healthy men are hanging out. If you see an attractive fella, consider a little kale reach-around to get his attention. Try asking him if he’d mine grabbing a tomato for you. Make comments like, “Wow, they have the best basil, right? ” or “Have you tried their berries before?” You’ll have him eating out of your hand.

Running Clubs. You’ve wanted to take up running for months. Well, here’s your reason. Find a great running club tied to a charity. Not only will you lose weight and get fit, but you might also lose something else – your singleness. Ask him questions like, “What’s your best time?” and “How much have you raised?”If you’re still a bit shy, show him what you got on the pavement. He will be running circles around you.

More on Peg Samuel

Peg Samuel started Social Diva in an attempt to answer the age-old question, “Where can a girl go to have some fun?” Voila! Social Diva was born to solve weekday and weekend doldrums. Peg began to produce unique, hip, exciting events with creative, carefully selected themes in the hopes of making going out more fun.
Wall Street has always been the hustle and bustle of the financial world. Men in pin-striped suits multi-tasking three different deals with a hot dog hanging from their mouthes. Men that look 60 at 30. Men with stress and poor eating habits. Men who need an SOS.

Jason Wachob was determined not to become one of those men. After trading equities on Wall Street for years, Wachob knew it was time for a lifestyle change. A healthy one. So, Jason founded Mind Body Green.com, an online lifestyle resource that offers everyday tips on green living, mind and body wellness for the guy who wants to maintain his charming good looks and brain power until he’s old and gray. Forever young, baby.

Because Jason is now a pro at inspiring men to find some inner sanctity, we asked him to answer a few questions courtesy of some of our HBD dudes. Hold onto your jock straps.

As an athletic man, how do I work in some yoga?

JW :I played basketball in college but have since traded in my basketball sneakers for a yoga mat. Yoga’s not easy – even for an athlete. If you’re tall like me (I’m 6′7″), I’d recommend Anusara yoga, which is a little slower than other practices and is focused on holding poses rather than quick sun salutations. Bikram (or hot yoga, as it involves practicing yoga in 105-degree heat) is also great for beginners.

Hmmm, not so sure about yoga. Not so bendy. Can I lift?

JW: If yoga isn’t your thing and you love lifting weights, then it’s important to make sure you do at least 15 minutes of low-intensity cardio or walking after you’re done. I learned this from Laird Hamilton’s book, Force of Nature, as this helps your body flush out lactic acid and help aid recovery.

What can I drink besides Gatorade?

JW: Post yoga (especially if it’s Bikram), I’ll reach for coconut water. I interviewed Gabby Reece a few months ago and I have to give her credit for turning me onto it. Coconut water has more electrolytes than 11 bananas! There are a few great brands but right now Zico is my favorite.

Okay, don’t tell anyone I am asking, but … How do I meditate?

JW: To get started you’ll want to sit, stand, or lay in a comfortable place with your eyes closed or open – it doesn’t matter as long as you are comfortable. You’ll want to focus your attention on “feeling” your breath. Your mind will wonder which is okay, just bring your mind back to the breath. I highly suggest Jack Kornfield’s Meditation for Beginners. It is a great beginners book/CD to get started with. Once you’re a pro like director David Lynch you can practice Transcendental Meditation and your mind will do amazing things. I’m not there yet, either.

It hurts, dude. Help.

JW: You might want to take a look at your energy centers or “Chakras.” Blocked energy in our chakras can often lead to illness so it’s important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely. Does your lower back bother you? You might want to work on your Root chakra, which is associated with feeling independent and can flair up when you’re worried about finances.

More On Jason Wachob
After years of successfully trading equities on Wall Street, Jason decided to make a lifestyle change – focusing on wellness and building companies that promote it. His companies have been featured everywhere from the The Wall Street Journal to Daily Candy. He has a BA in History from Columbia University, where he played varsity basketball for four years. Jason lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife.

So Cal surfer Erica Hosseini has a flaw – she’s goofy-footed. Otherwise, the 5’10, sunkissed, beach blonde tomboy who’s surely become the object of more male fantasies than she’s comfortable with, may just be as close to perfect as they come. A competitive athlete since childhood, Erica didn’t hone her love for surfing until she was 11. But by the age of 14, she had already broken the world record by becoming the youngest surfer, male or female, to make it to the finals of an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) pro event.

In the new decade, Erica is working the waves in hopes to qualify for the world championships, but with the gold medal for the Volcom Championships, NSSA National Open Women’s Title and Governor’s Cup under her board, this surfer chick has a date with destiny.

Waking up at 5am every morning to practice and jetsetting the globe for competition is never easy on the bod. So, HBD pulled Erica aside to find out just how she maintains her good looks for the cameras.

My sister recently told me about the commercial 15, which naturally, I changed to the commercial 10. Follow my lead: Jump and do a quick 10 sit-ups, 10 squats and 10 lunges. Repeat for those feeling brave. It literally takes less than a minute to do, but after an entire episode of 90210 (My total guilty pleasure!), I woke up sore.

2. Beach Sass: Tarte 4-Day Lash Stain. For natural eye-popping sassyness, I go with Tarte’s sulfate, fragrance, phthalate and petrochemical-free lash stain. Smudges remain to be seen. $18. www.sephora.com .

4. Diet Tip: Suck on a Lollipop. My ultimate “Stay Slim” trick I owe all to a teeny, tiny, tasty lollypop. The ChupaChups! I’ve found that I’m always hungry after I eat and want to gorge on everything. The 20-minute window it takes for your brain to realize you’re full, seems like it lasts a week. They’re low-cal, packed with calcium, vitamins A and D. www.chupachups.com.

5. Gal’s BFF: Running Shoes. My running shoes are my best friend. That’s a little pathetic to say, but when I’m running, I can totally zone out, think and let my mind wander. I pack them in my board bag when I travel. It’s also the best way to tour a new city and find your way around while simultaneously keeping fit.
