Blew all your spare dough on that trip to Cancún?
If you’re in the market for a beauty fix but you can’t afford top-of-the-line products, treat yourself to some homemade pampering. With some soothing tunes and a big ol’ glass of bubbly, you’ve got yourself a day at the spa—no leaving the house required.
1. Body Scrub
All that time at the beach makes for a sexy summer, but now your skin is looking a bit worse for wear. Time to let Mother Nature help you slough off that spray tan with a homemade salt scrub.
Take two ingredients you should already have in your pantry: sea salt and olive oil. Make a paste using ½ cup of sea salt and ¼ cup olive oil. Trace minerals in the salt and the vitamins and essential fatty acids in the oil will have you glowing better than your expensive body lotion—promise. If you’re feeling especially sweet, you can also add ¼ cup brown sugar to the paste.
In the shower when your skin is wet, rub the scrub onto your bod in a circular motion, beginning with your feet and working your way up. While the scrub is exfoliating your skin, you’re also increasing circulation, which helps break up that grody cellulite you adopted thanks to drinking your body weight in margaritas over spring break.
After you’ve rinsed off, rub in the layer of oil that remains on your skin. Or better yet, ask your man to do it for you.
2. Face Time
When the humidity fluctuates, so does the moisture in your skin. Don’t worry, you don’t need to break the bank with an expensive body butter or a chemical peel. Save your pennies—and that scary burn victim look—and give your face its own cocktail. Make a paste by mixing four slices of fresh pineapple with two tablespoons of coconut milk in your blender. Spread the paste uniformly over your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Take a cat nap while you’re waiting and rinse off when you wake up. Between the snooze and the glowing, moisturized skin, you’ll be sittin’ pretty.
3. Eye Mask
You’ve seen it in the movies, but it really does work: If you have puffy eyes, just place cool cucumber slices on your closed eyelids for 10 minutes. The potassium helps reduce any swelling. Cheaper than eye cream? Um, yes.
4. Hair Help
If you’re like me, the sun leaves your hair with some awesome highlights but not-so-pretty ends. To get your locks back in shape, make a pre-shampoo conditioner by mashing one avocado, one cup of coconut milk and two tablespoons of coconut oil together. Work it through your hair and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Follow with a good shampoo. Silky, smooth hair with money to spare? Don’t forget who loves you best.
